2013 Week 32 Sunday: Football and cars

The Allianz Arena

Last day of our field trip!  And its another beautiful day.
This week had been so long, with almost every single waking moment occupied by activities, but now it’s almost time to get back to the “normal” rhythm of summer school.

First stop of the day was the Allianz Arena, which is a huge football stadium north of Munich. We got a guided tour where we learned about the fire safety measures and the structures.
After the tour we went to the shop where lots of us bought souvenirs to bring back home. The store was incredibly big, so most of us ended up using about an hour in there.

The annoying stairs

Next on our schedule was the Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgard. Here they had Mercedes cars from the first models to the newest fancy ones. The building itself was also quite the experience, with stairs where all the steps were basically a different length, which made them incredibly annoying to walk on.
Here we also got a guided tour.

Some of the old cars in the exhibit
Old race cars

The guide told us that the silver colour on the old race cars (from England i believe) was because the cars where too heavy so the did everything they could to meet the regulations – including sanding of the original paint job! After that they kept the silver as their colour, i guess for good luck.

Cars mounted on the wall!

I was so fascinated by these cars that were mounted on the walls, it just seemed like a totally illogical and impractical thing to do – but it looked super awesome. They hung on the walls where there wasn’t any floor space anyways, so I guess it was kind of an optimization of space available.

And then, after another incredibly active day, the bus turned to take us “home” to Darmstadt. On the way home we saw the sunset, which looked amazing, sadly pictures does no do it justice.
We got home and checked into our old rooms, and then another week was over – the time seemed to fly with so many things to do and learn.
