2013 Week 32 Friday: Bricks and food!
Another day seeing a lot of stuff. We started at a brickyard that made hollowed out bricks with insulation in the gaps to improve the U-value of the finished wall as well as improve the acoustic traits of the wall. We got a tour around the factory where we saw the ovens and all the machines they used to make the bricks, we also got a demonstration of how the bricks were assembled and Molly even got to try placing one 🙂 .
The next stop was a construction site where these bricks were used. It was raining like crazy when we got there, so we all just tried to stay indoors. We got the tour and some information about the building and how they used the brick here. It was a nice apartment building with decent size apartments, but after the bricks were laid some cement was plastered on the building and painted in crazy pastel colors, which I was definately not a fan of.
For dinner we went to a bavarian restaurant where I got an assortment of different foods. Most of it was really delicious with meat balls and all sorts of meat (the Germans are not really fond of vegatables, unless its sauerkraut).
After dinner I went with a few others around the town and looked at old buildings and shops and stuff. I really like Munich but I feel a little uncomfortable and not really safe somehow if I had to be alone . I don’t know why it was just the feeling I got this evening. I mean, it’s around the same size as Copenhagen where I feel totally at ease so it might just be the feel of the town thats different (or the fact that it was dark).
But I really liked hanging out with the others here. After dinner Molly went to another part of town with Saskia to go to a concert with some of Saskias friends and they got home incredibly late (I’m so glad I didn’t join them, I’m not a teenager anymore 🙂  )
